Love the blog! some great information, The Grand Canyon is just breathtaking, I've rafted through it many times now and each time is still as special as the first! Some of the rapid highlights for me are Hermit, Granite, Horn Creek and Lava FallsI've bookmarked your blog so will be back. Thanks

Nicely summarized! And I feel like particularly virtuous and talented travel companion now. You left out all of my grumbles and complaints! :-)

I'm ready to hit the road again! Chicago here we come!

Quinn: My sister has a house she'd happily sell to you on the Oregon coast.....I'm sure it'd be a bargain as it's a fixer upper....but it has a new roof!

@ Kelly: It's fun to make a road trip, but I ended up spending $1126.00 in gas to do it (it was worth it). The gas prices in Canada are more expensive - and believe it or not, the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar right now.

Pick a destination at the end you want to see and then plan the route, looking for interesting and odd things do to along the way. Be sure to leave at least 3-4 hours a day with no plans at all so you have some flexibility.

@ Quinn: I'm not so sure about being a hermit, I'd miss technology too much. If we could figure out a way to afford living out there and not have to deal with custody problems, I'd do it now! :)

Ya know, we ought to get together and buy a large plot of land in Oregon somewhere and build a couple of house on the land and just live out the rest of our days like Hermits ;) hehe

This is amazing! I'm really interested in a cross-country trip like this (mine would be the opposite haha... Asheville to California). I have thought also about doing the northern route through Canada - I wonder if gas prices would be better? I have no idea what they're like up there, just that at least the dollar exchange rate is in our favor!

I work for a vacation rental company in Asheville, Carolina Mornings, and a lot of our owners have been offering gas gift cards to guests because it's so hard for people to take a vacation and stomach the budget for filling up the tank!

Also, I have a friend that lives in Kingston, TN - I haven't talked to him in awhile but I wonder if he knew about the body-painted flag? Pretty impressive attempt!
